Jim Connell Carlile, Jr. of Burnet, Texas, passed away on April 12, 2023 at home surrounded by his family. He was born on January 13, 1949 in Burnet, Texas to Maybelle Melton and Jim Connell Carlile, Sr.
While finishing school in Bertram, Jim lived with Bob and Ada Reed Brewer. He thought of them as his second mom and dad. He graduated from Southwest Texas State University where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture. While there, Jim met his future wife, Judy Ferguson.
Jim is survived by his wife of 50 years, Judy, and three children: Lori Jowers (Brian), Brooke Hansen (Kret), and Jase Carlile. He is also survived by his two granddaughters, Makenna Jowers (Beto) and Ashlyn Box, and two great-granddaughters, Elena Villegas and Wynter Villegas. He will be missed by his 7 siblings: Phil Carlile, Pat Carter, Tina Graham, Audrey Carlile, Vickie Stevenson, John Melton, and Don Melton.
Jim was a hard worker and good provider for his family. He enjoyed playing golf and his fiddle, going hunting, singing, reading paperback western novels and hunting magazines, staying fit, and laughing at his own jokes. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys and University of Texas fan. He was a long-term resident of Bertram and an active member of the community, but when he retired, he was ready to move closer to the golf course. He loved attending church, preaching sermons, and singing hymns. He knew the page numbers of all his favorite songs in the hymnal.
A memorial service will be held on April 17, 2023 at 2:00pm at Clements Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet, Texas. Ricky Boen, a good friend and worship leader, will officiate the service.
Jim was a kind, gentle, thoughtful, and loving man who will be missed and always in our hearts.
