Ida Kirkpatrick Wright born November 16, 1930, in Burnet, Texas and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, church member, and community volunteer passed away after a brief illness on April 27, 2015. She was 84.
Wright, who taught public school in Arlington, Texas and Bertram, Texas for more than 30 years attended the University of Texas at Austin and the University of North Texas at Denton, where she majored in elementary education.
Wright worked on the 1948 senate campaign of Lyndon Johnson, but chose to stay in Texas to continue her education after his victory.
In 1951 she married Douglas Kirkpatrick, an aircraft manufacturing worker and decorated World War II veteran. They were married for 46 years until his death in 1997. She later married Norman Wright, a local rancher. They were married seven years until his death.
She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Burnet and Burnet Presbyterian Church. She was a dedicated volunteer for the LaCare Food Bank in Burnet.
She is survived by her daughter Lee Ann Ward and husband Johnny of Marion, Texas; son Robert Kirkpatrick and wife Lori of Burnet and son Brian Kirkpatrick of San Antonio. She is also survived by granddaughters Kayla Kirkpatrick of Austin and Shannon Leaf and husband Stephen and great granddaughters Grace and Ella Leaf, all of Tomball, Texas. Also surviving are grandsons John Aaron and Ty Kirkpatrick of Burnet and Kevin Groenveld of New Braunfels.
The visitation will be held Saturday evening from 5 to 7 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 at the First Baptist Church officiated by Reverend Doug Lindley. Interment will follow at Bear Creek Cemetery in Bertram.
