David is survived by his wife, Arabella; parents, James W. and Priscilla Thorp; siblings, Jake, Gerald and Missie Thorp; children, Danielle, Wendy, Jon and Stephen Thorp; grandchildren, Macie, Emma and Xae; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
Born on June 24, 1955 in Pasadena, Texas, David lived most of his life in the greater Houston area. David’s biggest pleasure was playing his guitar and writing music and his greatest joy was his family.
He attended Galena Park High School where he is fondly remembered for playing his guitar. A fellow classmate summed up David’s talent as teaching the beauty in the simplicity of just playing and singing “one guitar - one voice".
He was an avid sports enthusiast and fan of all the Houston teams, knowing details of the players and sportscasters of each sport. His love of music and sports continued throughout his life.
He began his career working alongside his father and grandfather at Armco Steel. After the plant closed, he continued to work with his father in many other business ventures, then later partnered with his wife to build a same-day delivery business that he was very proud of.
Since his diagnosis in 2009 with stage 4 Throat Cancer, David fought unbelievably hard, helping others through his choice of chemotherapy trials, all knowing that it would help others, if not himself.
His strength was a testament of his courage. His love for his family fueled his strength to live. He was loved by many, touched more lives than he ever imagined and will be missed beyond belief.
Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church, 1705 First Street, Galena Park, Texas 77547. Arrangements by Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home Burnet, Texas. Condolences may be made at www.clementswilcoxburnet.com
