Robert McAllister was born on June 6, 1941 in Little Rock, Arkansas. He passed away painlessly and peacefully in the pre-dawn hours of February 9, 2022. He spent his final days with loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents Bertha and Robert along with older brother Bill Layne. He is survived by his sisters, Charla Stark, Sharlyn Bird, and Betty Perkins, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Also survived by son Charles and wife Gina McAllister, and daughter Lela McAllister.
He moved, along with his family, to the Bertram area when he was a young boy. Later in life, he always spoke fondly about his childhood on the farm to his grandsons, Ricky and Levi McAllister. He enjoyed the fact that he never lived more than a few miles away from the Bertram water tower. He graduated from Bertram High School in 1959, shortly afterward; he enlisted in the US Navy, serving aboard the USS Valley Forge and the USS Windham County. After discharge in 1966, he became an electrician in Austin, working in and around the city, achieving his master’s license in 1990. A decade or so later, he moved back to his final house in Bertram (as you all know) enjoying the beauty and serenity of his garden in his final years, working until he physically could not, just a few months ago. We can be happy knowing he is finally in better place playing dominoes with his friends and family that have already crossed over. And one thing is for sure, through thick and thin, we will always love Robert very much.
Love, Levi
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Sunday, February 13 at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Bertram followed by a potluck dessert held in the fellowship hall.
