She was born to the late Grady and Irene Bruner on November 5, 1929, in Waco Texas, where she was raised with her seven brothers and sisters. She married William A. “Bill” Schaefer on February 27, 1948, in Waco. They would have been married 73 years. Bonnie was a long-time resident of Austin where she worked for the Teachers Retirement System of Texas until her retirement. Upon retirement she became a resident of Burnet, Texas.
Bonne’s family was her universe and they always felt the love that she had for them. She enjoyed spending time with her children and being comical with her sisters. She also enjoyed showing her grandchildren the beauty of the state of Texas through the window of an RV. Through these adventures and many conversations at her dinner table, her grandchildren felt comfortable, humble, and yet proud of who they were.
Bonnie is also remembered for her sense of humor, wit, and wisdom. She was fondly known for her many sayings such as, “You can get glad in the same britches you got sad in,” “Peedie Pie” (when acknowledging children), “I’m so beautiful, I’m scared to go outside,” and “That house might cost a dollar ninety-eight”.
Bonnie is survived by her son, Ed Schaefer and wife, Marilyn, of Burnet, Texas; her daughter, Phyllis (Schaefer) Murray and husband, C. Scott Murray, of Granville, New York; and daughter-in-law Angela “Bibi” Schaefer of San Antonio, Texas. She also leaves behind thirteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and many loving nieces and nephews.
Bonnie is predeceased by her mother and father, all of her siblings, her husband, and recently her son, William Albert “Bill” Schaefer.
Her family expresses their heartfelt appreciation for the care and support of the staff members of New Century Hospice, Granite Mesa Health Center and Gateway Gardens Senior Living Community.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Moody Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 25, Moody Texas 76557.
