Bonnie Nell Edens Cherry, an angel to all, passed away on April 8, 2020 after a 10 year battle with cancer. Bonnie and her smile, laugh, and loving ways will be sorely missed by her children Paula Crawford, Mickey Cherry, Kathy Tanaka (Wesley), and Vickie Smith, her six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends. Bonnie is predeceased by her parents, sisters Dorothy and Beth, and her husband Glyndon Cherry.
Bonnie was born in Rainbow, Texas on April 20, 1929 to Hazel and Jack Edens. Bonnie grew up picking cotton and doing other farm chores with her sisters in Antelope Flats and Hedley, Texas. She moved to Amarillo where she married Glyndon at the age of 17. Bonnie excelled at the job of being a mother to her four children, helping in schools, boy and girl scouts, church, and anywhere she could to support her children. Bonnie worked for 20 years at Sears and Roebuck where she became manager of the teletype catalog sales room. She was active in Beta Sigma Phi sorority where she was voted their "Sweetheart."
After retirement, Bonnie moved to Lake Buchanan with Glyndon, bringing her new windsurfer. She was always open to new adventures, working at the Texas River Cruise gift shop, volunteering with the LaCare Food Bank, and teaching water aerobics into her 80’s. In 2012 she received the East Lake Buchanan Auxillary Woman of the Year award. She and Glyndon square-danced for years and went south to Pharr, Texas for many winters. Bonnie stayed active in many groups including bookclub, Mexican train, bunco, and church where she made life-long friends.
Bonnie loved spoiling and playing with her grandchilden, Angie, Chuck, Kristyn, Chelsey, Zoe and Zach. They will miss their fun-loving Granny, but will remember vacations at the lake with Granny, watching her slalom waterski with her foot in the handle and arms in the air. Recently Bonnie got to meet her latest great granddaughter, so she met all eight great grandchildren, Emmy, Avery, Eden, Rex, Wren, Asa, Kensley, and Cora. They will grow up hearing stories of this amazing angel of a woman. We will all cherish the time we got to spend with our angel, Bonnie and imagine her waterskiing into heaven with both arms raised. A Celebration of Bonnie’s Life will be held on October 1, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Highland Lakes United Methodist Church at Lake Buchanan Dam, Texas. Mask are respectively requested and some will be provided. Condolences offered at www.clementswilcoxburnet.com
