Their only child Darrel "Hutch" was born in January 1954.
He joined the United States Air Force when he turned 18 and was stationed in Del Rio at Laughlin Air Force Base where he was an aircraft mechanic. As the Vietnam War broke out, he was transferred overseas, and they spent time in Germany and the Philippines before returning to Sherman where he finished his military career and retired from the air force in 1970.

He had many hobbies and ventures including bowling for which he won several awards, real estate sales and rentals, playing golf at Inks and later at Delaware Springs where he earned the nickname “The Lizard”, playing cards with his friends and loved to play music and sing. If fact he helped to build the amphitheater behind the Dairy Queen in Burnet. He was always smiling and quick to tell a joke or pull a prank.
