March 25, 1921 - July 27, 2010
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother and grandmother, Yuet Ngor Jay on July 27th at the age of 89, with her family at her side. Now with the Lord, she is predeceased by her husband, Jay Chup Hee, and survived by her children, Frances (Steve), Betty (Max.), James (Elane), and her grandchildren, Christine, Samantha, Jennifer and Emily. Mom was born in Canton, China on March 25, 1921 and emigrated to Canada in 1955 upon marrying our father, spending the early years in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. Together they owned and operated a restaurant in Langley, B.C., in the late 50’s and early 60’s after which they moved to Cloverdale. Widowed in 1973, Mom and family moved to Vancouver where she worked as a seamstress at Jones Tent & Awning until her retirement. Mom found faith and was baptized at Ruth Morton Memorial Baptist Church in 1985 and found love and fellowship with the church’s Chinese congregation (now part of Oakridge Baptist Church). In 2006, Mom entered the extended care facility at Mount Saint Joseph Hospital. Our heartfelt appreciation goes to the caring nurses and care aides at MSJ2ECU for their patience and kindness. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 3789 Royal Oak Avenue, Burnaby, BC on Saturday, August 14th, 2010 at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 'Section of Summit'. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Tapestry Foundation for Health Care (in support of Mount Saint Joseph Hospital). Thank you, Mom/Grandma for your love, strength and dedication -- you will always be in our hearts.
