It is with great sorrow that the Wai family announces the passing of their beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Tom Wai. Tom passed away peacefully at the age of 79 with his family by his side, on February 6th, 2015 at 12:15pm. Tom was born and raised in Hong Kong until 1941. He then moved to Tai Shan, and later Macau. To create a better life for himself, at the age of 15 Tom immigrated to Canada to live with his uncle in Victoria B.C. As a young man, Tom travelled and worked throughout the province, and while working in Port Alice, he met his wife Cathy. They married in 1968, and in 1969, welcomed their first child Marvin. Daughter, Tobie was born later that year, and finally Derek in 1974. Tom had the joy of seeing his children start families of their own, and was delighted to spend time with his 5 grandchildren Emily, Ava, Mila, Antonin, and Lucas. Tom was a loving, caring, patient, and responsible man, who worked tirelessly to provide a better life for his family. Tom will be sorely missed, but he will always be with us, in our hearts and memories. A viewing and memorial service will take place at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. The viewing will be at the chapel on Monday, February 16, from 7pm to 9pm. On Tuesday, February 17, at 12:45pm a procession from the cemetery office will commence to the interment site.
