Thi-Hoan was a beloved mom, grandma, aunt, sister, and daughter. She and her late husband owned a general store in Vietnam for years before immigrating to Canada. When she came to Vancouver 41 years ago, she spent many years working as a fishmonger. In 1992, she retired and helped raise her grandchildren.
Thi-Hoan was never afraid of speaking her mind. Some would even say she was hilarious for her straight forward comments. She was well-travelled. Over the years, she visited Switzerland, France, Italy, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and more. Before 2020, you could always find her roaming the city by bus to one of the local shopping malls to people-watch. She knew someone everywhere she went.
In 2016, we discovered her non-small cell lung cancer. After her surgery that year, she was fortunate to be in remission until 2019. Her journey had its ups and downs. On October 24, 2023, she succumbed to pneumonia at Vancouver General Hospital. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones. She is the oldest of 6 children. She is survived by her 4 siblings, 8 children, and 13 grandchildren.
Thi-Hoan will be laid to rest beside her late husband Nguyen An Hua at Valley View Cemetery where her parents and brother have also been laid to rest. A Celebration of Life will take place at Ocean View Funeral Home located at 4000 Imperial St, Burnaby, BC, V5J 1A4 on November 3rd, 2023 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm with her burial to follow at Valley View Cemetery located at 14644 72 Ave, Surrey, BC, V3S 2E7 at 3:00 pm.
