zia and friend.
Teresa was born in Bitritto, Bari, Italy and passed away in Burnaby, BC after a short
battle with brain cancer.
She is pre-deceased by her husband of 62 years, Francesco, and her siblings Laura,
Giovanni, and Vito.
Survived by sons Gino (Margot) and Franco (Marina), grandchildren Alessia, Matteo and
Chiara, sister-in-laws Giuditta and Elsa, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Teresa grew up in Italy and immigrated to Vancouver with her young family in 1960 to
join her siblings and their families.
She worked as a talented seamstress and dressmaker for more than 35 years and had the
opportunity to use her culinary talents while running Casalingo, our successful family
deli/cafe for nearly 10 years, something she enjoyed thoroughly.
She was our family anchor. Although she projected a strong, can-do attitude, her biggest
strengths were her gentle and generous soul, and the welcome she offered those who were
drawn into her circle. She found pleasure in giving and in nurturing others.
As a wife, mother and nonna she doted on her husband, sons and grandchildren, always
ready to bring everyone together, give her support and help make everyone’s life
comfortable. There was no need to ask for help; she observed, anticipated and provided
emotional and physical nurturing. The needs of others always took priority over her own,
giving of herself unselfishly. The extended family and her friends were equally enriched
by her generosity.
You could always count on her to make every special occasion a festive event. She
opened her home to family and friends and invited everyone to feast at her table. Her
meals were legendary. They were a culinary delight and celebratory feast.
She was a tremendously creative person who delighted in creating and sharing beauty.
She worked magic on everything she touched, be it the creation of a beautiful garment, a
piece of jewelry, or an amazing meal. We all benefited from her talent.
Although her departure was sudden and unexpected, we are thankful that her suffering
was relatively short. She lives on in our memory as a creative, generous, dynamic mother,
nonna, zia, and friend. Most of all, we will remember her as the precious gift she was to
all of us.
Tu eri il cuore della nostra famiglia, e noi eravamo tutto il tuo mondo. Vivrai per sempre
nei nostri ricordi.
