Mr. Ronald Allan Stevenson

Passed away in his 83rd year at George Derby Centre. Cheryl, his loving wife of 43 years, was by his side during his transition. Ron had serious health issues for over 16 years. He was predeceased by his father, Michael (1985), his mother, Marjorie (Marge) (2003), his sister, Myrna (Stevenson-Blair) (2012), his brother-in-law, Louis (Lou) Blair (2015), and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was also predeceased by his father-in-law Robert (Bob), mother-in-law Madeline (Madie) Boone, and his brother-in-law Wayne Smith.

Ron is survived by his wife Cheryl. He is also survived by his ex-wife and their children, daughter Kathy (Scott) Butler, granddaughter Sarah (Tim) Preston, great-grandchildren, Carson and Peyton; grandson Gary (Lauren) Butler, son Lorne (Laurell) Stevenson-Sware, grandchildren, Jaden and Devon, nephew Tyler (Katie) Blair, great-nephew, John, and sister-in-law, Tracey Smith.

Ron was born in Winnipeg and lived there until 1972, when he moved the family to Vancouver at his sister’s prodding. They left behind parents and friends. In Winnipeg Ron worked as a Male Nurse at the Winnipeg General Hospital with Dr. Dwight Parkinson. As an Army Reservist at The Fort Garry Horse, part of Royal Canadian Armoured Corps, he rose to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer, retiring in 1972.

Ron worked at a nightclub in Vancouver where he met Cheryl. They married in 1977. He joined TransLink in 1972, working as a Transit Operator until he retired in 2003. Over those 32 years he earned several awards for exceptional safe driving.

The family wishes to express gratitude for the many kindnesses in thought and deed throughout the years, and for the care he received at George Derby Centre. A special thank you to Dr. R. Suneet Singh, Nephrologist, and Dr. S. Virani, Cardiologist, both for their brilliance and patience in treating Ron for 12 years; and Dr. Eric Bruce Davey, Ron’s family doctor since 1976. During the last six months, he was kind enough to make house calls at Ron’s home several times. Thank you to all for your support and friendship. It meant a great deal.

Ron will be inurned at a later date at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
