It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Maria Muro. Maria was the loving wife of Carlo and devoted mother to Angelo (Alicia). She was predeceased by her parents, Anna-Maria and Mario Benevoli. She is survived by her brothers, Giovanni (Glynnis), Joe, and Mario, as well as her nephews Matthew (Melissa), Nick (Erin), and Anthony, and nieces Ezra (Brandon) and Anna.
Maria was born in Trieste, Italy. She completed her education in the Burnaby School District and graduated from Burnaby South Secondary in 1974. Her strong grounding in the Catholic faith came from her parents and was further nurtured by attending catechism classes at Saint Francis de Sales Parish. Prayer was Maria’s source of strength. Each day, she watched and recorded the daily Mass. She prayed the rosary and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy daily, dedicating her Wednesday prayers to priests.
The highlight of her days over the past four years was meeting with her Zoom Rosary Group from Star of the Sea Parish. Despite many health challenges, she loved opening the meetings and warmly welcoming everyone. Family was the joy of Maria’s life. She cherished hosting Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners, especially for her nieces and nephews. Maria was selfless, always putting others before herself. She provided unwavering support for Carlo’s 40-year coaching career, capturing pictures and videos and offering rides to games and events.
Maria’s thoughtfulness extended to remembering all birthdays, anniversaries, and feast days of family and friends. She meticulously recorded these dates in her calendar and ensured she reached out with a phone call or text message. Maria was also an avid sports fan, passionately supporting the BC Lions, Canucks, Whitecaps, and Toronto Blue Jays. Another of Maria’s great joys was photography. She loved capturing moments at gatherings, encouraging everyone to pose, and generously sharing the photos with them. Kindness and generosity truly defined Maria.
Maria will be deeply missed by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A viewing will be held on November 26th from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Bell & Burnaby Funeral Chapel, 4276 Hastings St., Burnaby. A funeral Mass will take place on November 27th at 10:30 a.m. at All Saints Parish, 821 Fairfax St., Coquitlam.
