It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Lily Sau Hing Mah, age 86, of Vancouver, BC on September 21, 2024. Lily, the eldest of four children, was born in Toisan, China on August 9, 1938. She is survived by her husband, Roy Wing Oy Mah, daughter Cindy (Sam), and granddaughter Stephanie.
After marrying her beloved husband Roy on December 31, 1956, Lily immigrated to Canada. They initially settled in Prince Rupert, BC, but shortly afterwards moved to Arcola, SK. During these early years, Lily and Roy overcame many hardships, and worked tirelessly to run Welcome Café, a small restaurant in Arcola for six years. In 1964, they sold the business and relocated to Vancouver, where they established their roots and enjoyed a fulfilling life together.
Lily chose to retire and dedicate herself to raising her family after the birth of their daughter. She was a loving wife and mother who found joy in sewing, cooking, gardening, and shopping. Lily maintained an active lifestyle by playing badminton, foam ball, and pickleball with friends at local community centers. She also enjoyed traveling the world and exploring new places with her family. Above all, she cherished the time spent with her granddaughter, whom she lovingly nurtured, guided, and played with.
Lily will be fondly remembered as a warm and sociable person, admired for her intelligence, diligence, and selflessness. She consistently put others’ needs before her own, embodying kindness and dedication in all her relationships. Her love, compassion, and unwavering commitment to her family and friends touched everyone she met. She will be sadly missed by everyone who knew her.
