It is with our heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our much loved mum, grandmother and great grandmother, Joan McLean, just weeks before her 96th birthday. On Wednesday March 31, 2021, Joan peacefully passed away at Queens Park Care Centre in New Westminster.
Joan was born in London England and came to Canada in 1945 as a war bride with husband John and became mother to 12 children. Predeceased by husband John (1981) 5 (five) sons, Robert, Bruce, Gerald, Brien, Stephen, 1(One) Grandson Michael, 2 (Two) Great Grandson’s Caleb McLean and Isaiah Gillespie.
Joan was survived by sons Daniel (Judy), Rodney (LeeAnne), Richard (Cissy), and her four daughters; Marlynn Couture, Deborah Anne McLean, Doreen Manning (Rick) and Janice McLean.
Joan was a proud Grandmother to 25 grandchildren and Great Grandma to 35 and Great Great Grandmother to 2.
Mum was an amazing woman with a silent strength and courage. She overcame many challenges in life, moving to Canada as a young woman and raising 12 children. She taught us all to preserver and to never give up. Mom enjoyed her retirement years travelling a little bit and volunteering as Chair for the BC Senior Games for 6 years. She enjoyed her many friends and spending time at the New Westminster Century House.
No service at this present time…In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Recreation Department at Queens Park Care Centre.
We are so grateful to the Queens Park Centre Recreation Team and Nursing staff who showed mom nothing but kindness and love. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
