It is with great sadness & heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Janet Gayle Seggie, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and a dear friend to so many.
Janet was born on June 3rd 1960 to parents, Toy and Mary Lowe, who predeceased her, and passed away peacefully in her home on May 25th 2022. She will be dearly missed and remembered by her children Tamara, Nathan (Hailey), Aleisha; her siblings Jim (Vanessa), Jeff (Lanny); and her grandchild Scarlett.
Born and raised in Vancouver, Janet graduated from Killarney Secondary school before pursuing education in Information Technologies which brought her to her career with Telus. In the late 1980’s Janet moved to North Delta to settle down and raise her family, she quickly became very active within the community there.
Jan was always generous with her time and energy, volunteering her talents to many organizations; Pinewood & Seaquam P.A.C.s, Girl Guides Canada, Sungod Skating Club, Surdel & North Delta Soccer Clubs, and North Delta Minor Lacrosse among many others. Janet gave back to the community wherever she could and through her involvement build many connections and enduring friendships in North Delta, all while raising three children and working full-time.
Her social personality and creative nature were apparent in all that she did, but especially through her crafting business, The Mulberry Bush and the establishment of the much celebrated, Pinewood Bingo Night fundraiser.
In 2014, Janet suffered a severe and unexpected stroke. For some time, her injury created uncertainty about what the future would hold for her but in true Jan fashion, she fought hard and overcame very unfavourable odds to share another 8 years of memories with her family and loved ones. Janet gained a new appreciation for life after her injury and in recent years was able to give herself some of that time and care she has always given to others; planning for a beautiful future filled with laughter, fine wine, travel, family and friends.
Janet will forever remain in our hearts with love.
A private memorial service will be held Thursday, June 23rd at Ocean View Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life will be held to honour Janet at a later date and will be open to the public.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or Diabetes Canada.
The family encourages friends to share stories, memories or photos of Janet.
