Hoy Poo Quen Mah was born September 25th, 1933 in Taishan, Guangdong, China to Seng Wo Mah(Father) and Gee Lan Eng(Mother). He was the second youngest of eight(8) children and often slept on the dirt floor with his younger brother.
Immigrated to Canada in 1952.
Married Helena Siu in 1964, and had three(3) children, Karen, David, and Andrew.
Became a first time grandfather in 1992 and has a total of six(6) grandchildren.
A quiet and simple man who grew up in rural China, he moved half way around the world when he was 19 and built a full life surrounded by loved ones. His work adventures included the Britannia Mines, Dollar Meat Store (Chinatown), and eventually at BC Ferries where his career in the kitchen lasted for 25 years. Sadly, he passed away peacefully at home Saturday May 14th, 2022.
He is loved and will be missed by his family.
