It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful mother, Filomena (Delgiglio) Zappone, on September 23, 2024 at the age of 94. Our mother was born in 1930 in Taurianova, Reggio Calabria, Italy. She immigrated to Canada in 1950 as a bride to join her husband, Vincenzo. She was predeceased by her beloved husband in 2004.
Filomena will be deeply missed by her loving children, Domenic (Wilma), Tony (Susan), Phyllis (Andre), and Marcello (Jan).
She will forever hold a special place in the hearts of her grandchildren, and they will now share special stories of Nonna with their children. Nonna always expressed that she was so blessed with her 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her sisters, Teresina, Serafina, Concetta, and brother, Ferdinando, and many nieces and nephews and in-laws. She was predeceased by her parents, Antonio and Carmela Delgiglio, sister Giovanna, sister Angela-Rosa and brother Giuseppe.
Filomena lived her life to the fullest, but grew very tired in these last few years. Our hearts are filled with joy that she is now reunited with her beloved husband whom she missed immensely. Mom and Dad, there are not enough words to thank you for all you have taught us and all the love you gave us.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at Bell Burnaby Funeral Chapel, 4276 Hastings Street Burnaby BC on Monday, October 7th, 2024 from 6pm to 8pm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 555 Slocan Street Vancouver, BC on Tuesday, October 8th, 2024 at 11am. Entombment will follow at Ocean View Burial Park – Abbey Mausoleum, Burnaby BC.
We wish to send a special thank you to all mom’s caregivers at Kopernick Lodge. They truly took good care of Mom and we appreciate their compassion.
