Desmond Francis Hughes

Hughes, Desmond Francis born July 11 1935 in Dublin, Ireland. passed away peacefully at the Burnaby General Hospital April 22nd. 2013 surrounded by his loving family. Predeceased by his first wife Connie in 2000, his father Patrick Hughes in 1961, his mother Madeline Hughes in 2011 his sister Madeleine Austin in 2006 and his brother Declan Hughes in 1984. Survived by his wife Marilyn and his children, his sons, David (Kelly), Steve (Karen), Mike (Trudi) and his daughter Arlene (Richard) and grandchildren Ryan, Sarah, Declan, Austin, Emma. Also survived by Marilyn’s children, Erin (Sheldon), Chris (Angela) and grandchildren, Blake, Caitlin, Beth, Steele, Taryn, and Benjamin. Also survived by his sister, Oonagh and family, brother, Noel (Patty) and his family, brother, Brendan (Mai) and his family, and sister, Dymphna (Bruce) and her family. Des was an active golfer and spent many memorable days on the golf course with family and friends and had been an active participant at Corpus Christi Catholic School. Appreciation to Dr. Thauli for his kind care and concern througout Des’s battle with mesothelioma (asbestos cancer). A Prayer Service will be held at St. Peter’s Parish, 330 Royal Avenue, New Westminster on Wednesday, May 8th at 8:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at St. Peter’s Parish on Thursday, May 9th at 12:00 noon. Father Martin Moser, Celebrant. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
