Mr. Calvin Fong

He leaves behind his wife, Vicky, and sons, Evan and Marcus. He was predeceased by his mom, Kim. He is survived by his father Henry (Eileen) and his siblings Michael, Susan (Paul) and David (Fran), and his nephew, Brandon.

Calvin was a wonderful human, a loving if exasperated husband and a devoted, affectionate father. He loved his family to the bottom of his heart despite our idiosyncrasies.

Calvin had a wicked and absurd sense of humour that made sure Vicky and the boys were constantly laughing at him and each other. Our boys inherited his smile and sense of silly, making sure the adults were on their toes.

Everyone who knew Calvin, knew that his pride and joy were his sons, Evan and Marcus. He ended every text to his boys with “Love you, son”. He happily stood out in the freezing snow, pouring rain, blustery windstorms, blazing sun and every other type of extreme weather to support Evan and Marcus skating, swimming, and playing soccer, baseball and volleyball.

Calvin took great pride in his sons’ playing baseball, no matter the result of the games. He did his best to make sure the boys were feeling as good about themselves as they possibly could after every game.

Calvin was very glad he was able to make one last trip to Japan to watch Marcus play baseball this March. He pushed through cold, fatigue, and pain, and had a memorable trip with Marcus and Vicky. He was planning a second trip later this summer to take Evan on a family trip so we could have more memories.

Calvin loved watching car racing (F1 preferred and “anything with wheels” racing was enjoyed), hockey, baseball and soccer on TV. He enjoyed going to nice restaurants and drinking wine with his friends and family.

Calvin worked at various financial institutions, such as CIBC, Royal Trust and Scotia Trust. He went on to work at charities such as Vancity Foundation and Vancouver Foundation. It was in the field of charities that Calvin found his work passion. Calvin loved his job and took great pride in his work with his team, his peers and his clients. He was one those lucky people who found the work that he enjoyed and never wanted to retire.

We desperately miss Calvin. He left us too soon. We were not ready for him to leave us now. We had too many trips left to take, baseball games to watch, jokes to tell and wine to drink.

Calvin would want us to keep loving, laughing and travelling. We will do our best to make him proud of us.

The family wishes to thank the nurses (Ireka, Joanne, Ellen, Jenkins, Alex, and Andrea) and doctors (Dr. McFadden) at VGH ICU who cared for Calvin. They showed only kindness and compassion to our family during a difficult time and we much appreciated it.

There will be an announcement for a Celebration of Life for Calvin later this summer.

If you wish to honour Calvin’s memory, the family requests donations in Calvin’s name of blood products or financial donations to Canadian Blood Services (blood.ca) or to Canadian Association of Gift Planners Foundation(cagpfoundation.org) of which Calvin was a founding member.
