It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our wonderful father and grandfather Bill Ching Beau CHOI on June 3rd, 2022. Bill is survived by his two beloved daughters Marcia (Dennis) and Deborah as well as four precious grandchildren Dylan, Sean, Kyla and Hannah. Bill is survived by his younger brother Patrick (Anita). Bill was predeceased by Linda, his loving wife and partner of 62 years.
Bill was born in Hong Kong in 1930. He grew up to become a dignified man of indomitable spirit having survived wartime as a child. With his university studies interrupted in China, he immigrated to London, England in the 1950’s to study electrical engineering. There he met the love of his life (and the life of any party), student nurse Linda, to whom he devoted his heart and care until her passing in 2017. In 1967, Bill moved with his young family from England to Canada to build a better future and was a long-time employee of Westinghouse and Federal Pioneer until his retirement.
Marcie and Deb could not have asked for a more caring, gentle and generous father. Even when Bill was struggling with his own health, his only concern was for the happiness and well-being of his family. He found his lifelong joy in his purpose as a husband, father and grandfather. His favorite role was being a valued advisor and inspiration to his grandchildren, as well as their biggest cheerleader.
Bill was happiest spending time with his family or contentedly gardening. More than just a hobby to Dad, gardening represented his hope for the future and ensuring continuity in life. He was truly masterful in raising a healthy garden and loving family. A learned man, his favorite words were simply. “I love you” and “Thank you” and his favorite saying was “Every minute is a bonus”.
In the company of his family, Bill had a habit of declaring that he was a very lucky man. Dad, we always knew WE were the lucky ones.
We miss you beyond what words can express. Every minute with you really was a bonus.
Our deepest heartfelt thanks to the staff at Louis Brier Home who cared for Dad above and beyond the call of duty. Your respect and compassion were appreciated and your kindness will not be forgotten. A special thank you to Home East who supported us with love and patience during the last two years. Our sincere appreciation also to Dad’s companions Elma and Lydia who brought constant comfort to Dad and our family.
Services will be private as requested by family.
