Also survived and sadly missed by daughter Lee Zytaruk (Barry) and family, and daughter Roxanne Kinsman and family. Bert was predeceased by beloved son, Stephen in 1977, parents Bert (former MLA) and Hazel Price, brother Ron Price, and brother-in-law Harry Taylor.
Bert was born on January 31, 1931 in Trail but grew up and spent his whole life in Burnaby. He attended Kingsway West Elementary and Burnaby South High School. He loved soccer from a very young age - he coached a number of teams, was a founding member of the Burnaby Capps FC, and played until he was in his 70s. Bert remained an enthusiast of the beautiful game all his life whether playing, watching in person or on TV.
Bert met his first wife, Jean, in high school through a shared love of classical music and sports. They married and had four children. Although the marriage dissolved in the 60s, they always remained friends. Nadine became part of the family when she and Bert married in 2001.
Bert’s career was spent in the transportation industry and he retired from Auto Haulaway as VP of Labour Relations. Community involvement with Rotary Club and Burnaby Chamber of Commerce were very important aspects of his adult life.
The acquisition of a boat brought many adventures on the coast. Building his house at Shoal Bay on East Thurlow Island provided many happy times and memorable family vacations during retirement. Friends were always welcomed.
Bert loved having visitors, and eating cookies and ice cream, right up until his last days.
A celebration of Bert's life will be held on Saturday, March 4, at 1:00pm at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 3789 Royal Oak Avenue, Burnaby, with a reception following. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider donating to BC Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer Society of British Columbia. Please find the links below.
