Janie Marie Metzer

Janie Marie Metzer, 81, of Bryan, passed away peacefully Friday, July 31, 2015 at Hudson Creek Alzheimer’s Care Center in Bryan. A visitation will be held Tuesday, August 4, 2015 from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. A Celebration of Her Life Service will be Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Reverend Ted Foote and Reverend Marie Mickey of First Presbyterian Church in Bryan officiating. Interment will be at Kurten Cemetery.

Janie was born February 16, 1934 in Farmersville, Texas to Lester and Pauline Howard Smith. She married Ernest Metzer in Kurten, Texas. Ernie and Janie loving raised five children together. They were

active members of Faith United Church in Bryan for many years, followed by membership at First Christian in Bryan. At the time of her death, Janie was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Bryan.

Loving to sing, Janie was always an active member of her church choirs. She loved to laugh and visit with her family and friends. She entertained many times sharing her love and all the delicious food she

prepared. Janie was employed at Texas A & M University in Student Activities. After 25 years of service, she retired in 2003.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ernest, grandson Kevin C. Metzer and great-grandson Kevin W. Metzer, two brothers and three sisters.

Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Sharon Bowling and her husband John of Bryan, Cathy Butler of San Marcos, three sons, Rodney Metzer and his wife Kathy of Hilton Head, South Carolina, Russell Metzer and his wife Helen of Bryan, Tim Metzer and his wife Kathy of Greensboro, North Carolina, and one brother Howard Willingham. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Her family wishes to thank the staff and caregivers of Hudson Creek Alzheimers Center for their genuine love and care for Janie during the years she lived there. Thank you also to the Nursing Staff at St. Joseph Regional Health Care and Traditions Hospice Care.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church in Bryan or the Alzheimer’s Association.
