Frank Degelia, Jr, age 99, of Bryan was welcomed into his eternal home on Saturday, November 30, 2013. He was born November 4, 1914 in Steele’s Store, TX to Frank Degelia, Sr. and Bessie Cotropia Degelia. His parents and siblings Joe Degelia, Lena Degelia Tucker, and Mary Degelia preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Janie Ricca Degelia and one daughter, Frances Xavier DeGelia.
Frank attended school in Mudville, TX also known as Steele’s Store, TX. His younger years were spent on the family farm, tending to the family’s cotton fields and there developing his future interests in animals, farming and gardening. Later, Frank moved with his family to Bryan, TX and began a 50 year career of carpentry. He was happiest in his overalls; his pockets usually bulging with all manner of nails, nuts and bolts, and toting various hammers and saws. He always had a quick smile and handshake for the people he met, but was equally content to spend solitary hours on his small farm in Bryan, repairing, replacing or building most anything, and planting and caring for his large vegetable garden.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, Dec. 4th at 10:00 am at St. Anthony’s Church in Bryan, with the Rev. Patrick Ebner officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, also in Bryan. Visitation will be held Tuesday, Nov. 3rd, from 5-8pm at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan, with a rosary to be recited at 6pm. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Trini Perez and staff of HealthQuest Home Health Agency for their loving care of “Mr. Frank.”
