Pudge was born on March 31, 1959 in Dallas, Texas to Frank and Nannie Ruth Palmer. Pudge graduated from Corsicana High School in 1977. He went on to earn an Associate’s degree from Navarro Junior College in 1979, a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University in 1981, and a Master of Science degree from Texas A&M University in 1989. Since 2008, Pudge held the position of Research Associate at the Rosenthal Meat Science & Technology Center. If A&M offered a degree in tail-gating, Pudge would have had his PhD.
Pudge is preceded in death by his parents Frank and Nannie Ruth Palmer, brother Dicky Palmer, sisters Linda Huddleston and Carolyn Brown and niece Jennifer Price.
He is survived by his brother, Dennis Palmer and wife Janice, their children, Dillon and Jordan Palmer of Collinville; brother, Ron Carter and wife Rhonda, their children, Zebediah and Victoria Carter of College Station; niece, Dana Satterwitte and husband Roger, their children, Logan and Linsey Satterwitte of Ennis; sister, Becky Long and husband Larry, their children, Stacy Gallegos and Brian Long of Streetman; brother Larry Carter of Corsicana and his children, Brittany and Nicklaus Carter; brother-in-law, Earl Brown, his children, Dustin Clay and Lori Wedgeworth of Weatherford; stepmother, Sandra Palmer of Corsicana; McKenzie Price of North Carolina; and numerous other family members and his loving Texas A&M family.
Pudge was born an Aggie and he died an Aggie. It would surprise no one if Pudge’s first words had been “Gig ‘em”. He was never truly happy anywhere else. And so it is fitting that he will rest in eternal peace at the Aggie Field of Honor.
Honorary pallbearers will be all present and former employees of Rosenthal Meat Science Center at Texas A&M University.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Texas A&M Foundation, 401 George Bush Dr. College Station, Texas 77840. Please designate the Don Palmer Memorial Animal Science Scholarship in the memo line of the check.
