Albert Morales was born in Brady, Texas in 1943 to Julio and Luz Rosales Morales, who were good loving and hard-working parents. Albert grew up as a shoeshine boy at 15 years in downtown Bryan, where he would gather all his quarters and give them to his mom. Albert attended Bryan schools and graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School. To this day he enjoyed getting together with his classmates. Albert, with his love for sports began coaching and umpiring baseball at little league west in Bryan and girls’ softball in College Station, for several years until he was drafted into the Army. Albert was in the United States Army stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana before serving in Vietnam.
Albert finally captured the love of his life Ruth Ramirez after she kept running away for him. In April 1974 the two were married at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Bryan, Texas by Rev. Guillermo Buades.
Albert and Ruth welcomed their two daughters, Melanie and Monique Morales. Albert loved being a girl dad and all that came with it. From softball to shopping and being the best bag carrier. Albert enjoyed planning family vacations to various destinations. He would start early by packing the suburban and making sure that the girls were comfortable and had their snacks for the trip ahead. The vacations became family traditions that he cherished.
Albert’s favorite role was that of a grandparent to two beautiful girls, Kristen Morales and Arlyssa Jaden, and a grandson, Josiah Morales. He treasured his time with them. In addition, he became Arlyssa’s personal chauffeur from Kinder Care to High School, and always being the first in line to pick her up. He took pride in serving as Arlyssa’s room mother in elementary school and the ice cream man in the cafeteria. She loved him as her Papa. He escorted her to daddy daughter dances, pageants and all school events. He provided her with all of her needs, from pampers to her senior college ring.
One of his greatest treasures was being a great-grandfather to Michael Gonzales, and to his two precious great-granddaughters Milani and Maysen Ramirez. They loved spending time with their great grandpa and Sarge. He loved to hear them talk, giggle and eat grandma’s snacks that she had for them.
Dogs are Man’s best friend. Albert had two dogs that he loved and comforted him. For 16 years Aggie was his first companion, they would share walks, talks and snacks. They would take walks to visit their friend “The Owl of LULAC.” After Aggie’s passing, he would suggest that he needed a new companion. The new addition came from his niece Sandra Ann, who provided him with “Sarge” a toy yorkie. He would become his service animal and guard dog. Sarge in Charge!
Albert had a lot of friends from Aggie sports, bowling league, co-workers and classmates. Albert served as president of his bowling league 13 years. His daughter, Melanie would purchase Albert season club seat membership to Aggie Baseball. There he had many friends that would greet Albert as personal friends, and invited him to birthdays, tailgates, and weddings. As Arlyssa would say after attending games with her Papa, “Papa is friends with everyone from the custodial crew to the millionaires.” They recognized him by his greetings and his friendly smile.
Albert retired from Kroger after 30 years of customer service to management. After his retirement it took three employees to perform his job. While at Kroger’s he was often greeted by regular customers and vendors. Albert completed his 30 years at Kroger’s with only one sick day taken. Albert was door dash delivery person, before door dash was popular. Residents from LULAC Oak Hill, would call him at work to pick up a few items for them. He gladly fulfilled their request and delivered to their apartment.
Albert was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan, Texas. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus.
Albert proudly served as a mentor and a father figure to many of his nieces and nephews. He loved spending time with them at sporting events, children’s birthday parties, dances, and family functions. He enjoyed spending time with his “Charlie’s Angels” from Austin, Texas, Joyce, Deanna and Elena who spoiled him dearly. His brother, Ross’s grandchildren would grow close with their Tio. Uncle Albert would call them the Rodriguez Squad. He had the “pretty one” Lala – the “special one” – Valerie, his “secretary” – Tisha, his “snapchat buddy and weekly helper” – Raquel. He was dearly loved and pampered regularly by niece and nephew Annie and Billy Ramirez. Albert would enjoy the company of his nephew, niece and Godson, Peter and Linda Ramirez and Jordan.
The family would like to give thanks to Maxim Home Health Services who provided all of Albert’s skilled nursing staff. They provided him with genuine loving personal care. He became their brother in Christ, their boss, and their buddy.
The family would also like to thank Visiting Angels Home Health Service for providing them with outstanding aides in their time of need.
