Roger Winslow Tinkham

Roger Winslow Tinkham, 89 of Brunswick, departed this life, Sunday, September 29, 2024 at his residence. A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 11 am on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at First United Methodist Church, 1400 Norwich Street in Brunswick. Visitation will be at 10 am.

Burial will be at a later date in Bennington, Vermont.

Roger was born January 27, 1935 in Jamaica, New York to the late Arthur Winslow Tinkham and Marguerite Buckholtz Tinkham. Orson N. Tinkham and Mattie W. Tinkham of Bennington, Vermont were his grandparents. Roger grew up in St. Albans, New York. He attended public school there and went to high school Stoney Brook on Long Island. In 1952 Roger attended the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania where he graduated in 1956 with a B.S. in Economics. While at Penn Roger was a member of the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity. He rowed for the Varsity boat club and the Penn heavyweight crew. After graduation Roger served as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and in the Army Reserve.

Roger married Carolyn H. Tinkham in 1979 and they lived in Fairport, New York. He worked for Sybron Corporation and sold surgical tables and lighting to hospitals in this country. In 1984 Roger and Carolyn moved to Brunswick where he worked in sales for Brunswick Surgical Supply and IBM. Roger retired in 2000. He then took a part time job at Sea Island Company working as a golf starter and ranger. Roger also volunteered as a Hospice chaplain for Golden Isles Hospice and Heartland Hospice.

Roger was a member of the Ocean Masonic Lodge in Brunswick where he served as Master in 1994. He was also an affiliated Past Master of Solomon’s Masonic Lodge in Savannah. Roger received his 60 year Masonic award in 2016. In his spare time Roger enjoyed fly fishing, playing golf and wood carving. He also played the organ and other musical instruments.

Roger is survived by his wife of 45 years, Carolyn H. Tinkham, his three children Scott W. Tinkham (Paula), Kimberley M. Tinkham, Mark H. Greppin (Maria), his sister Margery Norris, seven grand children and eight great grand children. Roger loved his family and encouraged them all to have a positive attitude for life.
