Richard Wayne Smith, 66, entered peacefully into Heaven’s Gates on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 with his loving wife by his side. He was born in Point Pleasant, West Virginia the son of Robert Eugene Smith and Joyce Kinard Smith.
Rick, as he was affectionately known, graduated high school from Hurricane High School in Hurricane, WV. He later graduated from Berea College in Berea Kentucky with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree. He had a successful teaching career and was retired from Glynn County Board of Education. One of his life's greatest joys was mentoring children and helping them accomplish their goals in life. He had resided in Brunswick since 1985 and was an Active member of Northside Baptist Church. He also loved classic cars and enjoyed working on his 1959 Chevy. He also enjoyed woodworking and building things with his hands. Rick had a big heart and loved to care for others. He enjoyed cooking and caring his dishes to the homeless at The Well. He also loved to spend time with his family and friends.
Rick was preceded in death by his father, Robert Eugene Smith; and a brother, Bobby Smith. Left to cherish his many memories are his wife of 38 years, Janet Smith; his mother, Joyce Kinard Smith; two brothers, Mike Smith (Cindy) and Charles Smith; a sister, Sandy Thompson; also a sister-in-law, Terri Smith. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends between 5:00 – 8:00 PM Saturday, October 29, 2022 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:30 PM on Sunday, October 30, 2022 at Northside Baptist Church with Pastor Bo Hutchens officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made in Rick’s memory to Northside Baptist Church and/or the American Heart Association.
