Mrs. Priscilla Faucette Benson, age 91, died peacefully on January 20, 2011 at the Senior Care Center in Brunswick. .
Mrs. Benson was born in Sharon, Mississippi on September 10, 1919 to Kirby and Plem Faucette. The Mississippi native attended school in Memphis, Tennessee, and later moved to Brunswick to work at the J.A. Jones Shipyard in support of the war effort. Here she met and married Benjamin Folsom Grantham where they resided until his death in 1962. She then moved to Jekyll Island. In 1968, she married Donald Lee Benson and lived in Scarsdale, New York, for a number of years before returning to Jekyll Island permanently.
She was a member of St. Richard's Episcopal Church, where she served on the Vestry and Altar Guild. Mrs. Benson belonged to the Fort Frederica Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was a charter member of the Jekyll Island Sand Dollar Club. She was also an avid bridge player.
She is survived by her son, Benjamin Folsom Grantham Jr., his wife, Diana Grantham, and grand-daughter, Priscilla Grantham, of St. Simons; nieces Margaret Grantham, Oxford Mississippi, Sara Faucette Mattox, Tupelo, Mississippi, and Mary Eleanor Wood Smith, North Augusta, South Carolina, and nephews Robin Faucette and Rick Faucette, both of Tupelo Mississippi, Ret. Lt. Col. Sam Wood, Jr., Fort Hill, South Carolina, and Grantham Wood of Spartanburg, South Carolina. She is also survived by a very special niece, Sally Wood Hlavay, of Calgary, Alberta, Canada and Scottsdale, Arizona.
Mrs. Benson was preceded in death by her husbands, Benjamin Folsom Grantham and Donald Lee Benson and her grandson Benjamin Folsom Grantham, III.
A memorial service for Mrs. Benson will be held Thursday, February 24, at 3 p.m. at St. Richard's Episcopal Church on Jekyll Island, with the reception to follow in the Parish Hall.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles or a favorite charity.
