Maxine Harrington, 91, of Brunswick, died Thursday January 12, 2012 At Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick.
Maxine is survived by a son, Larry J. Harrington, two daughters, Kathi Harrington (Richard Puterbaugh) and Tina Herring all of Brunswick., She is also survived by five grandchildren, Heather Rayals, Jonathan Harrington, Savannah Puterbaugh, S. Sgt Tanner Herring (Carolyn) and Emma Partin, seven great grandchildren, Taylor Cooper, Morgan Cooper, Kirsten Ryals, Sonny Ryals, Scarlett Partin, Atticus Herring and Ari Herring. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Louise Grant of Greenville, S.C. and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col Jack K. Harrington, joining him in heaven on his birthday. The family would like to thank Dr. Herman Levy, Dr. Stephen Chitty and Dr. Duane Moores and their staff for continued support and compassionate care.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Tuesday Night Bible Study Group and the Fellowship Sunday School Class at College Place United Methodist Church.
Born in Hahira, Georgia on December 2, 1920, she travelled internationally with her husband during his military career, moving to Brunswick in 1965. She graduated nursing school in Valdosta, and worked as a nurse during several periods of her life. In 1967, Maxine found Alcoholics Anonymous and like a beacon in the night it guided her the rest of her days. Many individuals credited her with assisting them in obtaining and maintaining sobriety.
She was a member of the College Place United Methodist Church. Her hobbies were painting and managing the lives of her children and grandchildren.
Memorial Service will be held at 12 Noon on Monday, January 16, 2012 in the Chapel of the Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Rob Grotheer officiating. She will be interred at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends in the Funeral Home from 6 to 8 PM Sunday night
