Martha was born January 12, 1931 to the late Elizabeth and Charles Lanier of Americus, Georgia. She attended Americus High School, Mt. Vernon College and the University of Georgia. She was a member of Christ Church Frederica where she served on the Vestry and a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America.
Martha and her husband, Hubert, lived in Atlanta until 1977 when they moved to St. Simons Island, Georgia. She was an incredible cook and enjoyed entertaining in her home. Most of all she loved being with her family and friends.
Mrs. Veal was predeceased by her parents Charles and Elizabeth Lanier, sister Betty Lanier Parish, and her loving husband of 42 years, Hubert G. Veal.
She is survived by Mary Veal Walters (Arthur), Michael Veal Gallops (Jennifer), and Baylor Gallops, Genna Walters and Ian Walters; Connie Veal Sudlow (Robert), Robert Sudlow Jr. (Amy), Thomas Sudlow, Henry Sudlow, Carson Blackford and Taylor Blackford, Mark Sudlow (Katy), Maddy Sudlow and Byrnes Sudlow; Morie Veal Corley (Hugh), Heath Corley (Jessica), Tatum Corley and Greer Corley, Ginny Corley Brown (Eric), Anna Brown, Ethan Brown and Juliette Brown, Katie Corley Haynes (Patrick); Hubert Gregory Veal, Jr. (Lyra) and Jay Veal.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to her caregivers at Marsh’s Edge and the staff at Hospice of the Golden Isles for their care and support.

A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at 11:00 am at Christ Church Frederica on St. Simons Island, Georgia. A reception will follow at the home of Martha’s cousins Hillary and Bud Stringfellow.
