Louise Barnes McGoogan

She was born May 13, 1929, in Carrollton, Georgia, to the late Irma Lott Barnes Long Williams and the late Roy W. Barnes. Louise moved to Brunswick with her mother and stepfather, Haney A. Long, in 1943, during the shipyard days. She graduated from Glynn Academy in the Class of 1946.

She was married to the late Robert Bruce McGoogan, Jr. (R.B.) for 63 years, until his death in 2009. They were members of The First Presbyterian Church in Brunswick, where she remained active for 70+ years. She was an at home mom until her three children were older, and then worked in real estate with the Bill Brown Company for 15 years. She was an associate member of the Glynn County Board of Realtors.

Louise loved her family and friends and enjoyed reading, flower arranging, golf, and bridge. While she was a resident of Magnolia Nursing Home she enjoyed bingo, and was known as the "Queen" of Bingo!

Over the years, she was active in many civic and social organizations, including The Junior Woman's Club, The Pilot's Club, The Ladies Golf Association of the Brunswick Country Club, The Escorts, and The American Red Cross.

Survivors include two daughters, Gail McGoogan Smith (Stuart) of Augusta, GA, Cathy McGoogan Dedman of Brunswick, GA, and one son, Robert B. McGoogan, III of Mentone, Alabama. She leaves behind five grandchildren, Brad Smith, Holly Smith (Carlton) Kitchens, Ben Smith, Rebecca Smith (Brian) Dowler, and Jason Conley (Natalie). She recently welcomed and adored two great grandchildren, Emily Katherine Dowler and Carlton Smith Kitchens. Older great grandchildren she loved include Danielle Little Fretts, Kelsey Jones Calhoun, Renee Conley, Joshua Modlin, and Kevin Modlin. She is also survived by one sister, Marian Long Cotney (Dan) of Brunswick, one brother, Haney A. Long, Jr. (Patty) of Mt. Juliet, TN, one sister in law, Janice McGoogan Grandberry of Bossier City, LA, one brother in law, Joe McGoogan of Brunswick, GA, along with several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Susan Conley Modlin.

A private graveside burial will be held at Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 28, 2017, at First Presbyterian Church in Brunswick officiated by The Reverend Chris Noyes. A reception will be held immediately following in the church social hall.
