Lonnie Melvin DuBose, 68, of Brunswick passed away on March 25, 2011, with his wife and daughter by his side. Lonnie was born on January 6, 1943, in Waycross to Olin and the late Susie Robbins DuBose. Lonnie spent the happy days of childhood growing up in Hoboken, Georgia. While attending Hoboken High School, he enjoyed running track, playing the tuba, and working in his father’s service station. He moved to Brunswick in 1962. Lonnie joined the Seabees, the “Can Do” Construction Battalions of the United States Navy, and was a Vietnam War Veteran. He was employed by Georgia Pacific (formerly Brunswick Pulp and Paper) for 39 years. His coworkers were cherished friends. During the retirement years, Lonnie and his wife Linda enjoyed spending fun-filled days with their two grandkids, going on an endless list of adventures. He was a member of Glyndale Baptist Church and served as a Deacon.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 47 years, Linda Crews DuBose; one daughter, Susan DuBose Faulk and her husband, Charlie Faulk of Brunswick; his grandchildren who he often referred to as his “Pride and Joy”, Harrison Jacob Faulk and Kendall Anne Faulk of Brunswick; his father, Olin DuBose of Hoboken; a brother, Lester DuBose (Debbie) of Hoboken; a mother-in-law Mary Crews of Hoboken; a brother-in-law, Warren Crews (Carolyn) of Waycross; two sisters-in-law Janice Zak (David) and Joyce Woodcock (Woody) all of Brunswick; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Susie Robbins DuBose; his father-in-law Archie B Crews; a sister-in-law Gwendolyn Crews; and a great-niece Ashley Tiner.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday at Glyndale Baptist Church with Pastors Ken Creekmore and Tim Rowell officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Chapel Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be the Deacons of Glyndale Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be the Hoboken High School Class of 1961, Glyndale Baptist “Wise Guys” Sunday School Class, and former coworkers from Georgia Pacific.
