Lola Gene Elliott Jackson Gillespie was born in Murray County, Georgia on February 26th, 1918. She married her childhood sweetheart, Jesse W. Jackson, April 14th, 1937. They were blessed with three children, Jesse, Sandee and DeeDee. Commander Jesse W. Jackson died in 1948 and their son, a pilot, died in 1970. Mrs. Gene Jackson was one of the first real estate saleswomen in the 1950’s in Brunswick. She had her real estate company, “Gene’s Realty”; she was a broker. She enjoyed many friendships with her clients, who considered her part of the family. Her motto, “There is no substitute for honesty and integrity in business,” served her and honored her for more than sixty years. Mrs. Jackson worked day and night to keep her children fed and clothed. She remodeled and built houses, had rental houses and sold houses. Mrs. Gene Jackson was a visionary for her time. No challenge was too difficult just because she was a woman. She had herself and God. That made the majority. What she did plus what God would do would be enough for her life. Mrs. Gene Jackson was a woman of prayer. Her favorite scripture was “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Mama, we love you and celebrate your triumphant spirit and courage. She was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church, SSI.
