Lewis Hardwick “Dickie” Dent III of Waverly, Georgia entered his Heavenly Home on November 30 at the age of 85, surrounded by family. He was born In Milledgeville, Georgia, the son of the late Lewis H. Dent, Jr. and the late Ruth Blanchard Dent. He was also preceded in death by an infant son, Baby Boy Dent; also a brother, William “Bill” Dent, and a sister, Gloria Giles.
Left to cherish countless fond memories with Lewis are his loving wife of 63 years, Julia “Judy” Dent; his daughter, Catherine Grace “Cathy” Dent (Suzette Farmer); also his son, Lewis H. “Chip” Dent IV.
Lewis was a devoted husband and father, and cherished time with family and friends. He enjoyed making people laugh, and he never met a stranger! Due to a childhood accident, Lewis acquired a permanently crooked index finger, and was frequently recognized by this feature. Lewis was a man of faith; he was a member of The Gideons International and he spoke in this role at churches throughout the area. He is a member of Glyndale Baptist Church, and formerly a member of Blythe Island Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of Deacons and Sunday School Director, among other church roles. “To be present with the Lord is a glorious thing.”
Lewis enjoyed hunting white-tailed deer and fishing for spotted bass. He loved delivering boxes of tomatoes he grew in his garden each Summer. He was also an avid Atlanta Braves fan. He was loved by all who knew him and will be sadly missed.
Lewis attended Georgia Military College and later attained an Associates of Science in Marketing from Brunswick Junior College. He served his country honorably in the Georgia National Guard. Lewis had a successful career with Hercules Incorporated before retiring after twenty years. Afterward he started his own business (Identifoil), and sold marketing devices for a further twenty-one years.
Visitation will be held between 5 – 7:00 PM Sunday, December 4, 2022 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, December 5, 2022 in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Crandall and Rev. Ken Creekmore officiating. Burial will follow the service at Palmetto Cemetery.
