Laurie Joy Shepard, 72, of Brunswick, Georgia, enjoyed her Heaven Orientation and an introduction to her 4 heavenly grandbabies on November 13, 2024. Laurie succumbed to illness resulting from a stroke.
Laurie is survived by her husband, Danny, her children, Annie Salner (Ryan), Paula Hoena (Blake), Adam (Mandy) of Minnesota and Lee (Linda) of Mississippi. “Grrrrrandma” found abundant joy in her 10, and one on the way, grandchildren: Logan (and Laura) Salner, Kira Salner, Jack Salner, Wyatt Andrist, Emma Andrist, Lincoln Shepard, Hudson Shepard, Austin Shepard, Caleb Shepard, and Derek Shepard. Also missing their mommy are Sccy and Dolly (Havachons) of Brunswick.
Laurie was the second of 6 children born to Gordon and Delores Emberland of Willmar, Minnesota. She was predeceased by her parents and brother Dave. She is survived by sisters Jolene of New Jersey, and Jill, Mary and Jane of Minnesota.
Laurie Joy Emberland was born on October 15th, 1952, in Willmar, MN. She graduated from Willmar High School in 1970 and went to work for Barnes photography in Willmar. Daughters Annie and Paula resulted from a marriage to Gregory Solien in 1972 which dissolved in 1977. Later that year she married Danny, resulting in the births of Adam and Lee (Bubs). At the time of her passing Laurie and Danny were just 10 days shy of 47 years of blessed marriage.
Laurie was especially proud of having been a homemaker, faithful partner to Danny and raising her children to be productive God-fearing good citizens. She joked about giving her kids bragging rights for the toughest Mom during her years employed at the Minnesota DMV. She also worked as an office administrator for churches in Willmar and International Falls Minnesota. Throughout her life she participated and/or volunteered in church ministry and activities.
Laurie was a very talented artist and loved to share her knowledge and skills through teaching and displaying her art. She loved the challenges of painting, working with the different mediums and gifting the fruits of her labors. Her love of camping resulted in all of her children carrying on that hobby and could be found RV camping as recently as this summer. She discovered the joys of motorcycling in her mature years and often described herself as a “motorcycle momma with a black soul” (she drove a black KIA soul).
She embodied the catechism, “What is the chief end of man (woman)? To glorify God and to enjoy Him forever.”
