Johnny Wilson, 81, of Brunswick, GA died Wednesday the 7th of August 2013, at the Southeast Georgia Health System. Funeral services will be at the First Baptist Church of Brunswick, Saturday the 10th of August 2013, at 11 AM with Reverend Jim Crandall and Dr. Ronny Spillers officiating. Interment will follow the service in Chapel Park Cemetery. Serving as Active Pallbearers will be Arlie McNeill, Bobby Strayer, Dennis Folsom, Jimmy Durden, Raymond House, Abe Brown and Brad Whiddon. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers are the Staff of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home, Georgia Funeral Directors Association, Deacons of the First Baptist Church, and members of the Adult 4 Mens Sunday School Class.
Family will receive friends from 7PM – 9PM at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home, Friday the 9th of August 2013.
Mr. Wilson was a native of Jenkins County, GA, born the 24th of September 1931, to the late William Monroe Wilson and the late Annie Lewis Wilson. Mr. Wilson attended schools in Jenkins County, Georgia. He later enlisted in the U.S. Army in September of 1949, where he was honorably discharged in September of 1952. Soon after returning to Millen, GA, Mr. Wilson was employed by Fletcher Funeral Home in October of 1952, where he worked for six years before attending John A. Gupton School of Mortuary Science in 1958. Mr. Wilson graduated from John A. Gupton School of Mortuary Science in 1959. After graduation, Mr. Wilson returned to Millen, GA in July 1959 then moved to Brunswick, Georgia where he was employed by Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home in July 1960. Mr. Wilson became Co-Owner of Edo Miller and Sons Inc. in 1962 and was later appointed President of Edo Miller and Sons Inc. in 1964 where he remained President until 1993, at which time he became a consultant of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. Mr. Wilson was a 50 year member of the Georgia Funeral Directors Association; he was also a member of the Georgia Graduate of Embalmers and a past member of the Brunswick Jaycees and Kiwanis Club. Mr. Wilson was a member of the First Baptist Church of Brunswick, where he served as Deacon and Sunday School teacher and other various activities. He was also a member of the Adult 4 Mens Sunday School Class.
In addition to Mr. Wilson’s parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Craig Wilson and his granddaughter, Catherine Leigh Wilson.
Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife, Pearl Holton Wilson of Brunswick, GA; a daughter, Lisa Wilson of Brunswick, GA; two sons, Reverend Larry Wilson of Columbia, S.C. and Clay Wilson of St. Simons Island, GA; seven grandchildren: Wesley Wilson, Brooke Ellington, Tyler Wilson, Sarah Wilson, Landon Wilson, Madeline Grace Wilson, and Amelia Belle Wilson; six great grandchildren; a sister Magdalene Ambrose of Savannah, GA; and several nieces and nephews.
