John Garry Lee, 86, of Brunswick, Georgia passed away Friday, November 14, 2014 at Southeast Georgia Health System. He was born November 15, 1927 in Sylvania, Georgia to the late Minnie Lee and Robbie Lee. He graduated from Glennville High School and has been a resident of Brunswick, Georgia since 1967. Mr. Lee proudly served and retired from the United States Air Force. After his retirement from the Air Force, Mr. Lee retired from his second career through civil service as fire chief with Fort Stewart Fire Department and Hunter Army Airfield. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was a Shriner. Mr. Lee was also a member of Pine Ridge Baptist Church and enjoyed wood crafting.
In addition to Mr. Lee’s parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife: Mary Margaret Lee; his son and daughter in law: Tommy (Delores) Crisp and a grandchild: Lynette Ragland.
He is survived by his wife: Anne H. Lee of Brunswick, Georgia; his children: Susi (Rev. Harry) Jones, Roger (Michelle) Crisp, Lanelle (Terry) Rogers and Gwytha (Leon) Tucker; his step children: Bruce (Jody) Sweeney, Denesha (Brian) Hope and Mitch (Jeri) Sweeney; his grandchildren: Steve Crisp, Robbie Crisp, Tabby Hankins, Donald Gaetz, Jon Gary Gaetz, Bryan Gaetz, Scott Cutler, Ashley Crisp, Gary Willis, Jennifer Lamal, Beth Murray, Jerry Mancil, Johnny Mancil, Brittany Hamilton, Wyndee Tucker, Shae DeNyse, Kari Mears, Matthew McDonald, Nikki Holcomb, Taylor Sweeney and Austin Sweeney; he is also survived by 35 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6-8PM Monday, November 17, 2014 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. His funeral service will be held at Pine Ridge Baptist Church on Tuesday, November 17, 2014 at 11 AM with Rev. Michael Gibbs and Dr. Felix Haynes officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery.
Serving pallbearers include: Donnie D. Gaetz, Jerry Mancil, Johnny Mancil, Matthew McDonald, Taylor Sweeney and Gary Willis. Honorary pallbearers are the men from Adult One Sunday School Department, past and present members of the Golden Isles Camping Club, Randy Pifer, David Owens, Rob Owens, Spencer Tait, Louie Williams, Hugh Leggett, Randolph Baker, MD, Lana Skelton, MD and Lamont Shell.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, Georgia 31525 or to the Samaritan’s Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, North Carolina 28607.
