He was a resident of McIntosh County for 40 years and served as a church elder and a member of the Building and Grounds Committee of the First Presbyterian Church of Darien for six years.
A dedicated family man, he had many accomplishments and adventures. Most notable is his service with the Navy UDT and SEAL Teams. He was a master carpenter and a seasoned sailor, as well as a graduate from the Community College of Gainesville Florida. He enjoyed diving and fishing, and later singing with the church choir. Never short with a good practical joke and a pat on the back, he has touched many lives.
He was preceded in death by his parents Charlie B. Alexander and Johnnie Alexander. Three sisters; Joan Jones (Danny), Peggy Cook (Tony), Margaret Harris (Henry). Nephew Joseph Jones (Brenda) and Grandson Michael Adkins.
Survived by his wife of 59 years, Onie O. Alexander. Two Daughters, Ms Julie Adkins (David) of Hinton WV and Ms Jennifer Meinert (Greg) of Pittsburgh PA. Four grandchildren; Samantha Dobbs, Logan Yawn, Casey Meinert and Tanner Meinert. Three great grandchildren; Alex Dobbs, Ivy Dobbs, and Asuna Meinert.
The funeral service will be at the First Presbyterian Church of Darien at 11am on Friday, September 1, 2023. The burial will be at the Shellman Bluff Baptist Church Cemetery with dinner following the burial in the Shellman Baptist Church fellowship hall.
