Howard Seymour died September 26 at his home on St. Simons Island surrounded by his family. He was 84 years old. Mr. Seymour was a Glynn Academy graduate and a graduate of Georgia Tech. He was employed as a process engineer at Owen’s Corning Fiberglass in Aiken SC and later as an engineer at DuPont in Camden, S.C., before returning to his father-in-law's established hardware business. He took ownership of Arco Hardware and relocated the business from its original location on Norwich Street to its present location on Community Road. Upon his retirement, his son Trey Seymour bought the business and continues to operate it.
His community service included: being President of the Exchange Club of Brunswick, a member of the Board of Trustees at Frederica Academy, and a member of the Hospital Authority. Socially, he loved playing golf with the Sea Island Members Association and the Sea Island Seniors Association. He could be seen driving around the island in his 1956 Chevrolet Belair convertible. He never missed a game as a spectator watching his four sons play in whatever sport was in season. His greatest love was spending time with his family. He was an amazing mentor and example for his sons.
He is survived by the love of his life, Catherine Ingwersen Seymour; sons Jeffrey (Alisha) ; Paul (Evie); and Trey (Katie); a grandson, Hunter Seymour; four granddaughters, Clare , Cate, Sierra, and Skylar Seymour; and several nieces and nephews.
He was pre- deceased by his parents, Howard and Ruby Seymour, a Sister Theo Corwin, and one son, Kevin Seymour.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. The family asks that contributions be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles or the charity of their choice.
