Hilda Marie Strickland

Hilda Marie Sheward Strickland, 79, of Brunswick, Georgia answered her call to Glory on Monday, August 16, 2021. Marie was born in Tampa, FL, was a life-long resident of Brunswick, Georgia, and a 1960 graduate of Glynn Academy. After high school; she married the love of her life, Charles E. Strickland. They were married for 55 years. She was a member of the Chapel in Brunswick and a former member of the former McKendree United Methodist Church in Brunswick, Georgia.

Marie served on the charter board for the Manna House in 1983. She loved the beach, traveling, and cooking southern food. As a teenager, Marie enjoyed being at her family restaurant, the Varsity. She and her husband, Charles, toured many U.S. and foreign places by plane, ship, train, or car. Her greatest love was her family.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Harold Ray and Elizabeth Smith Sheward; her sister, Barbara Sheward Angle; husband, Charles E. Strickland; son, Charles Edward Strickland Jr; and brother-in-law, Reverend Charles Jones.

She is survived by her son, David Strickland of Brunswick; her daughter, Hope (Amanda) Strickland-Holland; granddaughter, Jessica (Brad) Daniels of Jesup, Georgia; great-grandson, Colton of Jesup, Georgia; sister, Mary Jones of Brunswick; brother-in-law, Ray Angle of Brunswick; nephew, Landon Hutson (like a grandson) of Hortense; and several other nieces and nephews.

The funeral services to honor her life will be held Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at 3:00 PM at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville, Georgia. Rev. Charles Smith will officiate the services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1962 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, Georgia 31525.
