Grace Bray Mills Richardson, 96, a resident of Brunswick, Georgia passed away Saturday morning, November 19, 2022 at Hospice of the Golden Isles. Funeral Services will be conducted 10 am Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Brunswick with Bishop Corey Pittman officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Park Cemetery with grandsons serving as pallbearers.
Grace was born on April 6, 1926 in Douglas, Coffee County, Georgia to the late Dillard Radford Bray and Mildred Lee O’Steen.
On June 8, 1946, she married her eternal companion, Wilbur Alton Mills in Waycross, Georgia. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple in Utah on April 1, 1959.
After the death of her husband of 52, years she married James Richardson who also preceded her in death as well as her parents, brothers Jack and Donald Bray, and several brothers and sisters-in-law.
Survivors include her sister Cora Lee Oppenheimer of Riverdale, NY, two sons and two daughters—Kenneth A. Mills (Martha) of Peachtree City, GA, R. Stephen Mills (Melissa) of Loganville, GA, and Sharon Grace Mills (Michael) Pittman and Kathy D. Mills of Brunswick, GA, as well as nine grandchildren, Morgan Mills (Stephen) Carter of Dalton, GA, Krista Mills (Michael) Davis of Peachtree City, GA, Hannah Mills of Peachtree City, GA, Ryan Mills (Mary) of Melbourne, FL, Kara Mills (Andrew) Opp of Dawsonville, GA, Kimberly Mills (Ben)Fuller of McKinney, TX, Cassidie Mills (Scott) Armstrong of Canton, GA, Kayleen Mills (Isaac) Ashment of Buford, GA, Carla Pittman (Luke) Wilson of Charleston, SC, and Brent Michael (Emily) Pittman of Navarre, FL, and twenty-three great grandchildren: John, George and Caroline Orizetti; Victoria and Zachary Davis; Colton and Ryder Mills; Madeleine Opp; Hunter and Jack Fuller; Katelyn Martin; Cammie, Shane, and Evan Armstrong; Dylan, Hayden, Owen and Olivia Ashment; Ruthanne, John and Paul Wilson; and Molly and Jackson Pittman. She also leaves behind several beloved nieces and nephews and their families.
Grace was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many capacities over the years—Relief Society President, Young Women’s President, as well as a teacher in various organizations in the church. She was called to organize and serve as the first director of the Family History Center in the Brunswick Ward and had a love for helping others research their family histories.
She and her husband Wilbur operated a small grocery/convenience store (Kwik Stop) on the Old Jesup Road for many years—she loved to sew and often could be found at the back of the store sewing clothes for her daughters between customers. Later in life she became a bookkeeper for Boone-Richardson where she kept everything in balance.
Her name “Grace” epitomized her and her life—she was truly a virtuous woman who was more priceless than rubies.
