Georgia Kate Burgess Clements, 99, of Brunswick, died peacefully at home with her family around her on Wednesday, October 8, 2014. Born in Clermont, Hall County, GA, on April 11, 1915, she was the daughter of George Newton and Carrie Azalee Kenimer Burgess. After moving with her mother to Brunswick to join her brother, Carlton (Chunky) D. Burgess, Sr., about 1933, she later met a dashing young Master Mechanic with H & H Service Store, by the name of L. H. Clements. The two married in 1935. She loved L.H. deeply and dearly and he loved her just as completely for nearly 62 years until his death in 1997.
She was Chief Deputy Clerk for (the old system) State Court, and secretary for Judge W. N. Little in what is now the original Glynn County Courthouse. It was common to find policemen at her home in many early evenings, there with warrants for her to sign. She retired in 1970. In addition to her family, Georgia’s passions were as a faithful member of First United Methodist Church, the Together Sunday School Class, the Elizabeth Circle, and was a devoted fan of the Atlanta Braves. Georgia touched many lives and always had a smile on her face. She loved her family, and was truly the virtuous woman who was loved and showed love to all she met. She has left many beautiful memories. Georgia is preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Montine, her husband, L. H. Clements, a brother & sister-in-law, C.D.
