Fred Williams Jr. passed away at the age of 81, June 13, 2023, on St. Simons Island, Ga. He was born on December 19, 1941, in Beulah, Alabama. Fred was a God-loving man who lived a simple life, loved sports, enjoyed gardening, and anything outdoors. He was a loving and supportive husband, father, and brother, as well as a wonderful coach, teacher, and friend. He touched the lives of many.
Fred graduated from Auburn University in 1967 and moved to Roswell, Georgia. Not long after, he met his wife Carole, started a family, and made Roswell their home. He selflessly dedicated his life to teaching and coaching at Roswell High School for 13 years. While at RHS, he coached football and basketball, winning numerous state titles. After hanging up his coaching shoes in 1980, he started a business endeavor and opened Marietta Trophy and Engraving. He was the face of awards in Cobb and Fulton County until he retired in 2017.
In 1984, Fred was inducted into the Roswell Rotary Club which introduced him to the Roswell Community. He was appointed to the Roswell Recreation commission in 1988. During his time at the department, he was elected as Chairman from 1991-2010. In 2005, Fred was elected as a Citizen Member to the Board of Trustees for the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association. While he served, the Parks and Recreation Department was awarded the Agency of the Year in 1988, 1990, 1998, 2004, and 2011. In 2012, the department was a finalist for the Gold Medal Award through the National Recreation and Parks Dept. After serving on the board for 24 years the Fitness Center at the Roswell Adult Recreation Center was dedicated and named after him in 2012.
As a testament to his involvement and contributions to Roswell High School, Fred was inducted into the Roswell High School Hall of Fame in 2014.
Fred is survived by his wife Carole of 45 years, daughters Geri Southall (Ben), and Mary Katherine Albritton (Jason), grandchildren Allie Southall, Taylor and Thomas Albritton, and sister Angie Rush. He is preceded in death by his parents Mary Kate and Fred Williams and his sister Nancy.
