Elmo Hines Clements, 81, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, October 20, 2022. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Hines was born November 7, 1941, in Wheeler County, Alamo, GA. to George E. Clements and Jessie Lee Clements. His family later moved to Ocilla, GA., where he grew up.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Edison Clements and Jessie Lee Clements; his wife, Marva Clements; his sister, Betty Maxine Brantley; as well as two brother in laws, Don Branch and Mike Cox.
He is survived by his daughters, Jan Clements Smith and Belinda McNair (Andrew); two grandsons that he was very proud of, Terry Smith (Sommer) and Alex McNair; his two great granddaughters, Lexie and Baylee; He also has a brother in law, Travis Brantley; as well as two sister in laws, Sandra Rabitsch (Buddy) and Shery-Ann Hendrix; along with several nieces and nephews.
Hines studied auto body repair in Americus, GA and went on to have a successful career doing what he loved to do. He also met the love of his life, Marva, in Americus, where they attended the same college. They were happily married for 54 years. His first job was in Tifton, GA. Then Hines and Marva moved to Brunswick, GA in 1967 and began working at Tates Cadillac, Port City Body Shop, Kings Colonial Ford, and then Pellos Body Shop where he had to retire due to his health.
He was a member of Pine Ridge Baptist Church for 54 years and taught Sunday school along with his wife, Marva for 15 years. He also served as an usher for many years. He loved to fish with his family, enjoyed working on cars, watching the Georgia Bulldogs, and Atlanta Braves. The most important thing to him was spending time with his wife and family.
A visitation will be held at Edo Miller & Sons Funeral Home between the hours of 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Sunday. October 23, 2022. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, October 24, 2022 at Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald, GA with Pastor Michael Gibbs officiating. A memorial service to honor Hines' life will be held at Pine Ridge Baptist Church at a later date.
Active Pallbearers will be Zac Cain, Paul Sweeney,Tony Hand, Edward Carter,
Billy Brooks, and Rich Smith. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Pine Ridge Baptist Church Men’s 70 and up Sunday School Class, Robert Haase, Karl Harms, Anthony Frederico, and Dr. Michael Butler.
The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Promedica Hospice for their care and love for almost 2 years while Hines was in their care, and especially the last 2 weeks of his life. We are also grateful to the following doctors; Dr. Michael Butler and Dr. Mark Watkins at Ascension Coastal Cardiology and their staff also Dr. Trent Schueneman at St. Simons Physicians Association.
