Clara May Liles Fiveash, 89, a 51-year resident of Brunswick, died peacefully on Saturday, September 2, 2023. Born in Bladen County, NC in 1934 as the youngest of six children, Clara was educated in the Bladen County schools and graduated from Flora McDonald College with a degree in education. Later, she pursued a career in social work after receiving her master’s degree from Florida State University.
She married James Malcolm Fiveash on June 18, 1960, and began raising their family in Georgia. The joy of her life was her family and raising her three sons.
The family moved to Brunswick in 1972 where Clara made lifelong friends and became involved in the Episcopal church and the local community. She was active in St. Mark’s Altar Guild, Daughters of the King, and the Thursday healing service. She was active in the Brunswick Woman’s Club, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), and president of Goodyear Elementary PTA.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 56 years, three brothers and a sister. Survivors include her sister, Virginia Leonard Liles, and three sons: Charles McLendon Fiveash (Lang), David Malcolm Fiveash (Lori) and Bryan Liles Fiveash (Anna). She is also survived by her eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
She enjoyed tennis, traveling, time with family, and walking the neighborhood. She was kind and caring, a mighty prayer warrior, and made friends with most everyone she met. Family and faith were always her priority.
The family wishes to express its sincere appreciation to the many friends and neighbors who loved and supported Clara during the last seven years since the death of our father James.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St Mark’s Episcopal Church Brunswick, Georgia in memory of Clara Liles Fiveash.
