Charles Herbert Bell, 88, died on December 21, 2017 at his home in the Marsh’s Edge Community in Saint Simons Island, Georgia. Born in Lockport, NY, on March 19, 1929, he was the son of William and Ruth Bell. After graduating from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania Charles enrolled in the Air Force and served three years as a lieutenant. He completed his service and married his Lockport childhood sweetheart, Carolyn Corson, then went to work for W.R. Grace starting as a plant foreman. He quickly climbed the corporate ladder and retired as Executive Vice President of the Davison Chemical Division. Over the years Charles moved his family several times and settled in Baltimore, Maryland for the last 18 years of his career. An avid outdoors man, he purchased an old Woolen Mill in Pennsylvania and kept busy restoring the buildings and working the 40 acre historic property. He and his wife Carolyn ultimately retired to Saint Simons Island full time where he enjoyed painting, biking, walking the beach, and taking ski trips during the winter. At 70 years of age, Charles often said; “the best thing about turning 70 was he could ski for free”. A consummate gentleman, an avid reader, and world traveler, Charles stayed active until succumbing to cancer.
Charles was predeceased by his parents, his wife and his sister, Beverly Cibbarelli. Surviving are his sister, Dana Bell Castle, of Williamsburg, VA, his daughters Connie Bell O’Keefe and her husband Dennis, Cady Bell and her spouse, Nichole, and Cathy Andrews, all from Maryland, and his son Chris Bell who resides in Pennsylvania. Mr. Bell has six grandchildren, Jessica Kuhn, Joy Martin, Kate and Sarah O’Keefe, Christopher and William Bell and one great grandchild, Hayley Kuhn.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society. Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. www.edomillerandsons.com
