Bessie Mae Lane Adams age 93, of Waverly, away peacefully on Monday, September 5, 2022. Bessie was born in Wayne County, Georgia the daughter of the late Nathan Cinclair Lane and the late Katherine Rooks Lane.
After riding the train with all her belongings in a sack to Brunswick at age 16, Bessie led a very independent, interesting life as a toll attendant for the Sidney Lanier Bridge and later as bookkeeper for F. W. Woolworth Company. She loved working in her yard and flowers, also feeding her birds, fishing, crocheting, and making jewelry. Most of all, Bessie was devoted to her family and dearly loved her grandchildren. Bessie was proud of her three daughters and was always sure to get them to all the horse shows and activities they loved.
A visitation for Bessie will be held Friday, September 9, 2022 between 10:00 – 11:00 AM at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. A funeral service to honor Bessie’s life will be held following the visitation on Friday, September 9, 2022 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Jim McIIrath officiating. The burial will follow the service in Mount Olive Cemetery in Brantley County.
Bessie was predeceased by her parents; a daughter, Bonnie McDonald; and her late husband, Ernest Sanders; her sisters, Thelma Lane, Lovie Lane, Audrey Rooks, Deane Lane, Gladys Lane, Dot Lane,and Lona Lane; also her brothers, Archie Lane , Arvel Lane, Q.Z.Lane, Gary Rooks, Henry Lane, Arnold Lane, Sammy Lane, and Emory Lane.
Survivors include her daughters, Judy Diestel (Herman), and Barbara Hulslander (Jay); grand-children are, Jennifer Shoemaker (Randy), Eddie Hardman (Amber), and Lauren Hulslander; her great grandchildren are: Sidney Shoemaker, Madelyn Hardman, and Nicholas Hardman. Sister in laws, Vida Lane, and Totsy Lane.
