Ruth was born on January 30, 1937 in Alma, Georgia to Lottie Mercer Tanner & Chester W. Tanner. She moved to Brunswick in 1957 with her husband. She was employed as a certified licensed optician for 31 years until she retired in 2002.
Ruth was very active in her church community at New Life Sanctuary & enjoyed her weekly visits to the nursing homes to visit anyone in need of prayer. She enjoyed her morning walks & even walked the Sidney Lanier Bridge Run each year. She loved to bake her famous brownies & pass them out to various family, friends, church members, & anyone she came in contact with.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd Phillips Corbitt; one sister, Iva Jean Rutland; and one brother, James W. Tanner.
Survivors include her son, Phillip S. Corbitt (Elizabeth) of Brunswick; three daughters, Pamela C. Talley (Robert) of Brunswick, Pattie C. Giguere (Kevin) of Murrieta, CA, and Polly C. Davis of Brunswick.
A memorial service will be held at 11am on Friday, April 30 in the chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Dana Swain officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
She was known as Mema by her eight grandchildren; Emily, Erin, Audra, Hillary, Haley, Corbitt, Trey, and Ivey Shae; and nine great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Southeast Georgia Health System Foundation for the Senior Care Center, 2415 Parkwood Dr., Brunswick, GA 31520 and to New Life Sanctuary Church, 940 Harry Driggers Blvd., Brunswick, GA 31525.
