Janie was a beautiful soul and she will be sorely and dearly missed. She was a God-fearing and God-loving woman. She believed in the resurrection of the dead which leads to new life. We are sure she is being celebrated in heaven being told, "Well done, good and faithful servant!"(Matthew 25:23)
Janie was a very cheerful woman and always did everything with a smile. Her family knew her as the matriarch of the family. She was a mother figure to countless people of all walks of life, both within the family and church. She was also celebrated for her giving spirit expecting nothing in return. Her doors were always open. She was willing to give anything which included advice, money or even the shirt off her back if there was a need. She was always willing to help anywhere she could and even took the lead in many life-threatening situations too numerous to count. Janie was also a great woman of faith. Besides serving her family, she also was known for serving her church and community. Most of her service was done at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Brownsville, Texas where she was a faithful member for many years. She served in many facets of the church, however her most enjoyable service was done as a Eucharistic Minister. She visited countless sick individuals both in homes and in hospitals. She attended and even led numerous funeral prayers and rosaries. She also belonged to many church organizations such as legion of Mary, St. Vicente de Paul Society, las Guadalupanas and many others too numerous to list. Janie also volunteered her time and donated her resources to organizations like St.Jude. In her younger years, she devoted much of her time to the church choir and enjoyed singing with a church group. She also led bible studies for all types of assemblies. Janie was not just a list of accomplishments to display to the world with delight. She was a shoulder to cry on, a make-shift ambulance driver to the sick, a taxi driver to the needy and the primary party planner for the family. Not one person in her family celebrated a birthday, bridal showers, baby showers, weddings, baptisms, confirmations or any other celebration without Janie's direct input and planning. She was so involved, a large majority of the celebrations were done in her house.
Janie, we love you and miss you. This world is a sadder place because you are gone. However, heaven has gained an All-Star and Jesus has gained a faithful friend forever. Farewell Janie...loving sister, aunt and friend. See you soon!
